Aarya Web Series Review | Susmita Sen Aarya Review

Susmita Sen's Aarya Web Series Full Review Preference Google  Aarya opens with the visual artof foreshadowing. The gist of the entire serieslies within its first shot. A woman’s body suspended ina reverse handstand on gymnastic rings. She is perfectly static. This image alludes to two things: The woman’s world is goingto be turned “upside down" and she will soon be requiredto master a male-dominated field. The woman is Aarya: a unisex name that, dependingon its roots, translates to “noble” or “song” – incidentally both her nobility and her lovefor song will feature heavily in her journey. I can also think of a third thing. Her mid-air handstand in blackoveralls, makes her resemble a bat. Think of the Batman origin story: A tragedy spurs adormant millionaire to become an iconic protector. Similarly, the murder of her husband spurs Aaryato go from wealthy housewife to steel-minded protector of her three kids. Her mask and cape are figurative;she will play superhero. The only ...

Snowpiercer Movie Review | Ending Explained

Snowpiercer Movie Review...  South Korean director Bong Joon-ho took theworld by storm, literally, with his fast-paced action epic Snowpiercer.  Preference "IMDb" Even though the film was released in 2013,some fans are still left wondering what exactly happened in the film's final moments. If you count yourself among the many who aren'tquite sure what to make of the movie's dramatic conclusion, fear not! We're here to explain exactly what's goingon at the film's end.  But before we board the train, be warned:Spoilers ahead. Occupy Snowpiercer It doesn't take too much time to realize thatthe social structure inside of Snowpiercer's titular train is meant to mirror our own present-dayglobal society, with the haves, the have-nots, and everyone in between occupying a "preordainedposition" in the socioeconomic structure.  The train's wealthy elite live in the front, while its poor inhabitants survive in the train's tail, a...

Tanhaji Movie Full Review

Tanhaji Movie Full Review...  Hindi cinema is currently in the throes of historical fever. On the heels of Ashutosh Gowariker’s Panipatcomes Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. Preference "Google" For makers who are struggling withhow to revive centuries-old stories for a millennial audience, I have good news. Writer-director Om Raut, co-writer Prakash Kapadia and leading man and co-producer Ajay Devgan seemed to have cracked the formula – Tanhaji, based on the life of Shivaji Maharaj’s lieutenant, is an action movie rolled into an Amar Chitra Katha comic.  Which means that there is no room here for nuance or arcs. Actors play outsized, one-note characters. The Marathas, with a few exceptions, are valiant, noble warriors who sacrifice their lives for their motherland. The Mughals are largely avaricious usurpers who demand ‘jaat' and ‘jaan’.  They are described as ‘darindey’ and ‘mauka parast’. The clash of good and evil is played out in 3D, in an unapologetically artificial, dig...

Thappad Movie Full Review In Details

Thappad Movie Full Review    Preference "Google" Thappad is the story of a single slap. A blow to the cheek that Vikram, angry, frustrated,a little drunk, inflicts on his wife Amrita who is attempting to steer him away from an escalating conflict. This is an affluent Delhi home. Vikram is an ambitious, hardworking executive. Amrita is a cheerfully dutiful housewife. They seem snug in their respective roles. But that night brings into sharp focus theinequity of their relationship. It’s almost as if Vikram slaps Amrita awakefrom a slumber and then it becomes impossible for her to fall back into that façade of domestic tranquility in which she is, without a doubt, a second-class citizen. The beauty is that director Anubhav Sinha, who has co-written the film with Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul, doesn’t tell this story in a strident tone. He doesn’t demonize men or create shrill drama. He simply and quietly reveals the patriarchy, which is embedded so deep into our culture that even women w...

Chintu Ka Birthday Movie Review

Chintu Ka Birthday Full Movie Review... Preference " Google" Chintu Ka Birthday is a modest filmwith an out sized heart. Brothers Satyanshu Singh and Devanshu Singh, who’ve also written the story, don’t let their limitedbudget get in the way of their ambition. The film is set in Baghdad in 2004,post the fall of Saddam Hussein, but the action is confined to one house. Visually there is little to play with and yetSatyanshu and Devanshu keep us hooked. This is a film brimming with sweetnessand innate human decency. Which often doesn’t make for good cinema, because bad behaviour is plot. But here, it works. Largely because Satyanshu and Devanshu are skillfulwriters, working with a set of terrific actors. Vinay Pathak, Tillotama Shome, Seema Pahwa and theunassuming Bisha Chaturvedi as Chintu’s older sister. Chintu Ka Birthday is the story of an Indian immigrantfamily, caught in the throes of the Iraq war. But it also works as a commentaryon American aggression, the futility of an...

Choked Movie Review In Detail

Choked Hindi Movie Review!!!            Choked applies tomany things in this film - a pipe, a marriage, a woman’s voice, her life, a society, a country. Reference "Google"   Anurag Kashyap rolls political critiqueinto a suspense drama about a middle-class woman who discovers thata pipe in her kitchen is spewing cash. It’s exactly the miracleher cash-strapped family needs, but then Prime Minister Modi announces demonetization and everything goes haywire. Choked is about the intersectionof the personal and the political. Where the film and its makers standon the PM and on demonetization is made clear from the start. In an early scene, Sushant and Sarita,a once-loving couple, whose marriage is souringin front of our eyes, are watching television. We don’t see what they are seeing, but we can hearsomeone extolling the virtues of eating mushrooms, because THAT is the secret of thePM’s vitality and good health. The anchor says:Mushroom khaao, Modi ban jaao. W...

Gulabo Sitabo Hindi Movie Review

Gulabo Sitabo Movie Review In Detail! Anupama Greed, for the lack of a better word, is good, greed is right, greed works. You remember Gordon Gekko’smemorable lines from Wall Street? Gulabo Sitabo is the antidote to that.  Reference From Google The film, directed by Shoojit Sircarand written by Juhi Chaturvedi, is a bittersweet study of greed and its consequences. But this isn’t a morality tale.Shoojit and Juhi don’t judge their characters. They simply present them with all their flaws and frailty. The result is a film which is slyly funny, because human behavior is so often ridiculous, but also deeply melancholic. Gulabo Sitabo is infused with lamentfor a more elegant, civilized world, which is now crushed by the crass and the corrupt. The name Gulabo Sitabo comes from traditional puppetart, in which the two characters quarrel incessantly. Like Gulabo and Sitabo, Mirza and Baankeyare always at loggerheads. Mirza is the landlord. Baankey, the tenantwho pays only 30 rupees a month. T...
